After trying it out, I can confirm you can do a lot in Maya ( model/ rig/ animate/ texter/ place a camera) and use unreal just for renders( lighting/ simulation). This is a crap example but it works to a point where you can deal with unreal engine's BS a lot lost. (but still have to deal with Maya's problems)
